Microfiche
Bio

Microfiche is a San Francisco-based, four-piece instrumental outfit that has built a reputation for electrifying audiences in SF’s finest indie rock venues and beyond. A Microfiche show delivers a full-on extrasensory experience, drawing diagrams for ears and minds while keeping the dance floor energized. Bassist Tim Lillis and keyboardist Heidi Blobaum formed the band in 2007, adding Atom Ray on guitar and drummer Amol Sogal to the current lineup in the Fall of 2008. Creatively walking the line between sweet indie melodies, electro-clash dance and heavy post-punk, Microfiche has developed a distinct sound. The band has been heard throughout the Bay Area, playing for audiences at Maker Faire, supporting Fugazi’s Joe Lally at Bottom of the Hill, headlining the Wiretap Music benefit at Thee Parkside and gigging with local faves French Miami, Cloud Archive and Hey Three Eyes. In addition to releasing their debut EP, the band is planning their next tour and writing a musical accompaniment to a series of 20 etchings that convey Austin-based artist Matt Rebholz’s re-imagining of the Golem folk tale. SXSW was a great experience for the band in 2009, and they plan to build on that by playing CMJ in 2010. Microfiche’s unique blend of pulsing beats, and heavier, Fugazi-esque breakdowns are woven throughout their debut EP “Jetpacks and Laser Beams” due out this Fall. Engineered by Phil Manley (Trans Am, The F*cking Champs), the band explores linear song structures, pairing their driving rhythm section with layers of keyboard leads and lush guitar work. Each member brings a complementary style to the group without overshadowing the subtle nuances in their dynamic songwriting.
