In fact, if you wanted to go out dancing, you weren't going to a club - you were going to a disco. ABBA was one of the most popular bands of that time having a fan base across the world. By the 80's Disco was pretty much dead. The musical direction of that time was all about rock n roll and if you wanted to continue your career you headed in that direction too. Lately, there has been a resurgence in dance music. However, it is much more popular in Europe than it is in the states. Some of the successful dance artists of today are Daft Punk, M.I.A., The Chemical Brothers, and the Crystal Method.
